DOLLS AND BALLS
In this article, we are going to
write about toys. Traditionally, dolls have been always for girls, and balls
have been always for boys. Also, pink things have been for girls and blue ones
have been for boys. So, it was strange to see a boy with pink clothes or
playing with girls toys.
We have lived in a sexist society,
where boys played with balls, cars, lorries and action games, and girls played
with dolls, little houses, teddy bears, to be educated as a housewife.
Firstly, boys and girls must play
with all kind of toys, because it is very important for their development. They
have to be prepared to the future, to live in
society with men and women, and to work in different jobs. For example, a woman
can work as a fireman or a man can work as a nurse.
However, mass media are usually
sexist. Many advertisements show two different positions between boys and
girls. And apart from that, mass media create inequality.
On the other hand, parents and
teachers need to change their minds, because nowadays life is very different from when we were children.
A recent
research has demonstrated children who play with non sexist toys are more
sociable.
To sum up, a good idea for Christmas
presents should be to buy non sexist toys for children. Cooperative games are a
good solution. It could be a key to play together girls and boys.

SEXIST TOYS
Christmas is here! It’s time for presents and
consumerism. TV shows adverts that influence our opinion: dolls dressed in pink
for girls; and cars, balls and guns for boys. But should parents get influenced
by publicity?
Twenty years ago boys and girls used to play
separately with their own toys and everybody knew what to give to a child.
Nobody wondered whether it was right or wrong.
However the situation is changing. We can see
boys and girls exchanging their toys. Parents sometimes observe their children
with surprise because they still do think that there are certain toys for girls
and others for boys.
Advertisements reflect this old-fashioned way
of thinking and show a kind of behaviour which is no longer appropriate.
Parents should pay attention to their children’s tastes and they should foment
respect and equality among men and women without bearing in mind the kind of
toy their children have.

SEXIST OR NON-SEXIST TOYS?
If you had a
daughter, what kind of toys would you give her for Christmas? And if he were a
boy?
Do you think
advertising is influential to choose some kind of toy? Do you think sexism exists in advertising?
On the one hand,
do you think the advertisement is who creates sexism? Or on the other
hand, do you think the advertisement that copies the sexism existing in society?
Is the colour important when you buy a toy for boy
or girl?
